Woody's First Voice None Other Than Blanc

Mel Blanc was the voice of popular and beloved animated cartoon characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Pie, and Woody Woodpecker. Yes, Blanc--Mr. Bugs Bunny himself--was the original Woody!

Blanc supplied Woody's voice for his first three cartoons. When Blanc accepted a full-time contract with Leon Schlesinger Productions/Warner Bros. and left the Lantz studio, gagman Ben Hardaway became the bird's voice. Despite this, Blanc's distinctive laugh was still used throughout the cartoons, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Lantz.

Later, Hardaway was succeeded as Woody by Grace Stafford, wife of Walter Lantz.
